Metro Strikers

Sometimes it was sloppy, sometimes stressful, sometimes desperate, but in the end, our Strikers emerged victorious.  We had protected lead games, come from behind games, last minute score tying games and finished 2-0-2, with 20 points, beating Scott Gallagher Green to win the championship on Monday afternoon.
There was much pride and excitment expressed by the parents, because we won and because of how we won.  In the championship game we witnessed a team breakdown, as the Gallagher players fought with each other as well as their opponent.  The Strikers won and tied and perservered as unit, showing what a dedicated group can do playing as a team.
Thanks to each of you for your hard play and demonstration of character.

The Wehkings threw a great pool party, and it appeared that the boys had a great time.  Thanks to everyone who brought food.  It was delicious.  It was nice to see many of you again.  I hope everyone's summer is going well.  Of course, we know that it likely does not compare to the experience going overseas.

I am thankful for the unique opportunity to spend this quality time with Ben.  We may never do anything like this again. (Boys Week+ Out.)  It would have been enough to see two World Cup Soccer Games, but to also see 2 Metro Striker Friendlies, and take in all of the sites was too much.  (Not to forget the first class transportation to Paris!)  Thank you to John, Julie and all who made the trip possible.  Thanks also to Celia for letting us go.  It will take Altzheimers for me to forget what a wonderful time I had.

While the US was credited with two World Cup goals, we saw the only US score.  It was exciting to see the goal actually happen.  I saw shots of the goal from behind the net and they were very impressive.  However, I was lucky and got this great shot of the ball going into the net.
